Double Pushchair 3 Wheeler: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

What to Look For in a Double Pushchair 3 Wheeler

The first double buggy that is modular, it expands with your family, switching from single to tandem in just a few seconds and also accepting car seats. It comes with a large basket, and tyres with foam that will never flat.

Our MFM test participants were impressed by its quick and easy folding with one hand and the clever mechanism to attach and remove cocoons that are still in the infant stage. However, they found it was not as responsive on rough terrain as other models with larger wheels.

Comfort

A quality double pushchair with 3 wheels should be comfortable for both the baby and parents with a padded seat and hood that covers their heads. You can also find many different colours, fabrics and accessories to suit your style. Many models come with multiple position seats that recline and some feature a lie flat mode for newborns. Some models are also lightweight which makes them easier to carry into the boot or to climb up and down kerbs.

Find features that make your ride more comfortable, like an easy suspension or a large basket. Some models have an innovative frame that expands widthways to accommodate a second seat, which means you can get them through narrow doorways and are easier to maneuver on tough terrain. Certain models come with a clever standing fold which reduces the space needed in storage. Some models have a bag to transport the buggy.

Side-by-side buggies tend to be wider than single buggys but some, such as the Roma Gemini, manage to be lighter but still feel nippy enough to be used in cities or at theme parks. They're also easier to maneuver up and down kerbs than some other twin-seaters, thanks to their evenly weight distribution. Many can be used from newborn to around four years old, and some can be fitted with car seats or carrycots to prolong the life of the product.

Some even allow for three kids by adding a buggy for older children who are mobile (UPPAbaby Vist v2 Double). While the majority of manufacturers state the maximum weight for each seat and possibly a total frame, it is impossible to determine exactly how your child will grow before they reach the age of toddlerhood.

You can decide whether a triple wheeler pushchair is right for you by trying it out. This will let you see how easy it is to use with both babies inside. Ask the store if they're able to offer a demo or hire agreement to give you a better feel for a model.

Safety

A double pushchair with three wheels will give you more stability than a four-wheeled model which makes it more secure if you regularly walk in the countryside. Most pushchairs have tiny wheels that can get clogged with grass, sticks, and mud. This makes them difficult for you to navigate. On the other side, a double pushchair with three wheels has large back wheels that occupy the bulk of the space, so you're unlikely to run over anything.
